You spin a wheel. It lands on a real club-season, say Arsenal 2003/04 or Blackburn 1994/95. You take one player from that squad and put him on the pitch. Do that eleven times and you have an XI that could never have existed, then the game simulates 38 matches and tells you where you finished.

Perfect XI is an unofficial fan project. It uses player and club names as plain text only. It carries no club crests, no competition logos and no player photographs, and it is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Premier League or any club.
