The short version

You spin a wheel. It lands on a real club-season, say Arsenal 2003/04 or Blackburn 1994/95. You take one player from that squad and put him on the pitch. Do that eleven times and you have an XI that could never have existed, then the game simulates 38 matches and tells you where you finished.

The match engine is a Dixon-Coles bivariate Poisson model, the same approach used in academic football forecasting, tuned to real Premier League scoring rates.
Player ratings are anchored to real awards: PFA Player of the Year, Premier League Player of the Season, Golden Boot winners.
Ages use verified dates of birth, so Schmeichel is 34 in the treble season and Giggs is 18 in 1992/93.
Everyone in the world gets the same Daily Challenge spins, so scores are directly comparable.
