Perfect XI for iPhone

Privacy

No account, no email, and nothing about you sold to anybody. There are adverts, and this page says exactly what they see.

What stays on this phone

Everything you play. Your drafts, your seasons, your Dynasty, your album, your coins and your level are stored on the device and nowhere else. Deleting the app deletes all of it, and there is no way to get it back, because there is no copy anywhere.

What leaves it

Only what a live duel needs, and only when you start one. Three things go up: a random id made on this phone the first time it was needed, the handle shown to your opponent, and the seed, the picks and the score of that duel.

What that id is

Sixteen bytes of random numbers, made on the device. It is not your phone's identifier, it is not linked to your Apple account, and it identifies nobody: it exists so that two people in the same duel can tell each other apart.

How long it is kept

A duel that nobody joins is deleted after two minutes. A duel that was played is deleted after six hours. Nothing else is stored on the server at all.

Where that goes

To a database hosted by Supabase, in Europe. It holds a queue of people waiting for a duel and the result of one, and nothing else. It is the only server the game itself ever sends anything to, and there is no analytics service of any kind. The adverts are the one other thing that reaches out, and the rest of this page is about exactly what they see.

The adverts

There are two kinds and no more. One you choose to watch, in the shop, in exchange for a pack or some coins. And one full screen advert at a break in play, after a season or a tournament has finished, at most once every few minutes. There are none during a match, none in the Daily, the Weekly or a duel, and no banners anywhere.

Who shows them

Google, through AdMob. When an advert is requested Google receives what any advert needs: the kind of device, roughly where in the world the request came from, worked out from the internet address rather than from your position, and an advertising identifier if you allowed one. Google then records how that advert did: whether it appeared, whether it was watched to the end, whether it was tapped. Google's own software also keeps its own crash logs, which is how they find faults in it.

That list in full

In Apple's own categories, which is how it is written on the App Store listing:

What What for Tracking
Device ID Advertising, analytics Yes
Advertising data Advertising, analytics Yes
Product interaction Advertising, analytics No
Performance data Analytics, app functionality No
Crash data App functionality, analytics No
Coarse location Advertising No

Why coarse location is on that list

Google works out roughly which country an advert request came from by looking at the internet address it arrived from, the same way any website can. The game never asks for your position and your phone will never show you a location prompt for it.

What Google is never sent

Anything about the football. Your drafts, your seasons, your Dynasty, your squads, your album, your coins, your level and your duel results are never part of an advert request and never leave the phone for Google. The game sends Google nothing it did not have to send to fetch an advert.

The tracking question

The first time you open the game your phone asks whether Perfect XI may track you across other apps and websites. That question is Apple's and the answer is yours. Say yes and the adverts are chosen using an identifier your phone gives out. Say no and they are not, and nothing else changes: the same number of adverts, the same rewards, the same game. You can change your mind at any time in the phone's Settings, under Privacy and Security, then Tracking.

What there is not

No analytics of our own, no crash reporting of our own, and no third party in here except the one that shows the adverts. No banners. No account and nothing to sign in to. We do not sell anything about you to anybody, and there is nothing to sell, because nothing about what you play ever reaches us either.

Children

The game asks for nothing and stores nothing personal, so there is nothing here that a child could give away.

The football

Perfect XI is an unofficial fan game. Player names, club names and seasons are matters of public record, used to describe real football history. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to the Premier League, FIFA, UEFA, any football club, any competition or any player. The adverts pay for it being free rather than for anything else.

Getting in touch

Anything at all, including asking what is held about you and asking for it to be deleted: perfectxigame@gmail.com. There is no account to look up, so if you write about a duel it helps to say roughly when you played it.
